Philosophy
The art of photography is to capture the moment on film (digitally speaking). More than this, it's about anticipating that moment, and being there to capture it.
The 'art' phtography? I honestly believe that photography is an art 95% and academic 5%. I can bake the perfect scones. Give the same ingredients to just 2 or 3 people, and the end result is more than likely to vary greatly. The same is true in photography. Passion and enjoyment has to be in the mix for success.
I worked in sales (computers) after completing my degree in 1998 at university in Leeds. In my first year I attended Top Sales Awards in Brighton being in the UK top 30 for sales volume. Sales is about communication, bulding relationships, understanding someone's needs, matching those needs to the right product.
So how did this lead to photography?
Taking pictures has been a past-time for a long time. The opportunity to bring my ideas and approach in photography to a career has been amazing.
My approach is described as reportage (photojournalism) and Fine Art photography.
Fine art photography refers to photographs that are created to fulfill the creative vision of the artist - Wikipedia.
Photojournalism is a particular form of journalism that creates images in order to tell a story. One distinguishing quality is 'objectivity' - the situation implied by the images is a fair and accurate representation of the events they depict in both content and tone - Wikipedia.
These terms I believe are often misused. But rest assured that they truly represent and describe my approach. My site is representative, rather than for example 30 hand picked images. I hope this brief insight into my thoughts have been helpful.
